Grants

A large variety of grants are available in Central and Eastern Europe, regardless your business motivations (cost reduction or leveraging sales revenue). The grants can be divided into three main categories, namely:

  • Grants from the Dutch authorities;
  • Grants form the local government in the specific Central and Eastern European country;
  • EU grants.

Grants from the Dutch authorities

The Dutch authorities have several granting programs. Examples are investment grants (such as PSI, formerly known as PSOM), feasibility grants (such as PESP), export grants (Prepare2Start), long lasting granting programs for consortia (2g@there) etc. Not only the type of grant varies strongly, its amount differs also; from several thousand to hundreds of thousands EUROS.

Besides such export grants, the Dutch authorities also have various grants for innovative projects. More information and examples of successful business cases can be found via this link.

Local grants: up to 70% of the investment

Several governments in Central and Eastern Europe reward investors with grants. Its amount can be very substantial (up to 70% of the total investment sum). However the subsidy granting process requires a delicate combination of negotiating with the local authorities to delivering information according to the administrative rules of engagement.

The conditions vary not only per CEE country, in addition differences are applicable per region within a country.

EU grants: Poland receives most in EU

Finally large funds are available from the EU for the Central and Eastern European countries. Some of which are exclusively focused on the CEE countries. The size and content of these grants varies strongly per country. Poland is by far the largest grant receiving nation in the entire EU. For the years 2007-2013 the total size of the EU grants for Poland (own contribution included) is € 108 bio. More information regarding the differences for the various CEE countries is available upon request.

EU grants: FP7 budget € 50 bio

Besides grants for specific CEE countries, also 'generic' grants are available, meaning these are open for applications from all EU countries. The best known are the grants within the Seventh Framework Program ('FP7'). The total size of this budget is more than € 50 bio.
